Holiday Card Project 2015

Description

Because no one should spend a holiday in the hospital.

In case you have not seen the updated version of my last journal, my dad had been having GI complications for prettymuch all of November and finally decided to get admitted at a hospital for treatment. Initially it was for a colon infection, but it turns out, the infection was actually started by colon cancer.

Thankfully, Dad was able to return home in time for Thanksgiving. He started chemo this week for both the cancer in the colon and some colon cancer spots on the liver. The treatment will be ongoing for the next few months, and once it's killed off the bad stuff, he'll be having surgery to get the dead part of the colon removed.

My family has been blessed that we were able to catch this thanks to the infection, and we were fortunate that this kind of cancer is considered very common and easily treatable. However, there are many others in this world who haven't been so lucky. I do not know who will be receiving this card, and they will not know who made it. The only thing that matters to me is that whoever gets this card, regardless of their physical condition, will feel loved and remembered this Christmas.

Greeting inside: "Sending you best wishes and warm, feathery thoughts this season. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!"

Blaze and Arundol, alongside a peach-faced lovebird, wood thrush, mourning dove, barn owl, blue jay, and phoenix (using some of its molted feathers to heat the popcorn kettle!)

Done in colored pencil, jet black ebony pencil, ballpoint pen, acrylic paint and nail polish, mounted on construction paper with Crayola marker accents.

Also a one-time tribute to the lovely Yule Gryphon holiday card series by the amazing windfalcon, found over here: windfalcon.deviantart.com/gall… :)

"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'" - Matthew 25: 34-40
