What better remedy to painting a Blues-themed feather than painting a Blackhawks-themed feather??

This one's another birthday gift for a long-distance friend and fellow Hawks fan, who unfortunately lives down in Bolts territory. Here's to bringing him a little piece of home. And don't worry, there is plenty more room on the back for more titles!! ;)

For some reason, it seems like some of the friends I bonded with the most in college eventually end up moving long-distance for work or family. This friend and I have so many fond memories together, including going to my first Bulls game at the UC last December, then a week later an epic Hawks game vs. Calgary, and getting on the camera for first intermission report on CSN Chicago. Those were good times. The first time we even met was at a live screening of a Hawks road game vs. Dallas, early junior year of college. Who knew hockey could bring good friends together this way?

This feather actually gave me an awesome background for the skyline. It really does look like the Chicago sky just after sunset :)

The only issue I have other than a second bout of nervousness from mailing artwork, is that the *SEARS* Tower came out a lot stouter and somewhat shorter than I wanted it. Oh well, I guess this is what comes when working with the contour of a feather.

What made this a little tricky to make in spots was that the feather is aligned left, with the quill pointing right, and I am right-handed. So instead of getting to hold the quill with my left hand and paint with my right, I had to either cross my left hand over a little, or hold the other, dried and painted areas of the feather while I worked. Phew....

49 days until hockey season starts.... Is It October Yet??

Go Hawks!!!! Let's go for four in seven, baby.

Acrylic paint on greenwing macaw feather.

This is absolutely gorgeous! I am shocked by the amount of detail you can put into a feather. So impressive!
